(May 14, 2012) Ochsner Clinic Foundation and Ochsner Clinical School, University of Queensland celebrated its Ninth Annual Research Day on Tuesday, May 8. The annual event showcased research activity from Ochsner’s three research institutes, as well as medical and educational findings from clinical staff and faculty members and students from Ochsner Clinical School.

(April 20, 2012) Athlete check-in for the Ochsner Ironman triathlon began on Friday, April 20, and several members of the Institute of Translational Research volunteered to staff the tables and assist the registrants.
The overall mission of this conference is to provide clinicians updates on the latest practices in subspecialty areas, including cardiac, regional, obstetrics, and pediatric anesthesia. The regional workshop will provide the novice with a better understanding of ultrasound-guided techniques, while allowing the more advanced regional anesthesiologist to broaden his or her scope of practice.
Learning Objectives: After successfully completing this course, attendees will be able to: 1. Identify and categorize the various classes of airborne allergens found in ambient air. 2. Describe the lifecycle, modes of transport, reproduction, and methods of dispersal of aeroallergens. 3. Recognize diurnal, seasonal, and weather-induced patterns of allergen incidence. 4. Describe the health effects, which may result from exposure to airborne allergens. 5. Practice hands-on application of acquired knowledge within the course, with availability of expert assistance
Educational Objectives 1. Define current state-of-the-art surgical approaches to lung cancer. 2. Update biology of lung cancer. 3. Explore new targeted therapies. 4. Review EndoBronchial UltraSound (EBUS) in diagnosis and staging lung cancer. 5. Discuss current standard of care regarding maintenance therapies for lung cancer. 6. Discuss new radiotherapy approaches. 7. Dietary do’s and don’ts in lung cancer treatment and/or prevention. 8. Review recent lung cancer screening trials and discuss updated recommendations for screening. 9. Review nursing roles in postoperative care of lung cancer surgical patients. 10.Review role of psychosocial support and palliative care in lung cancer patients and the new evolving field of Psycho-Oncology as it relates to lung cancer patients. 11.Review surgical options for esophageal cancer. 12.Discuss GI management for local disease.
The conference is intended to educate practicing radiologists about emerging technologies that may be beneficial in the diagnosis and treatment of their patients.

This conference will provide updates on diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus, including recent advances in the treatment of diseases. It will focus on primary clinical applications of current and new advances. The conference will provide a high level of detail in the treatment of digestive diseases.
The field of pediatrics is fluid with new discoveries and advances in patient care. Generalists must be knowledgeable in all areas of preventive care as well as be able to competently care for children with more complex medical problems. It is essential that these healthcare professionals remain current in all areas of pediatric medicine. We will address a range of topics in this year's course, from general outpatient medicine to emergencies that generalists may encounter to chronic illness. This CME course will provide participants with the basic science knowledge and bedside practical skills to manage many everyday clinical challenges. Through lectures, PowerPoint presentations, video demonstrations, and handouts, practitioners will visualize and take home key information for managing everyday encounters with pediatric patients.
