Effective January 1, 2009, the Medical Library and Archives will coordinate animal alternative protocol search requests with the Animal Welfare Information Center, AWIC.  Please follow these guidelines:

1. Please complete the AWIC Worksheet included in the AWIC Worksheet Instructions (PDF file below).
2. Please submit the search request via email to infodesk@ochsner.org four weeks prior to the date the search is needed so that AWIC has three weeks to complete the search.  Please also attach the animal study proposal/protocol to the email.  The proposal will be forwarded along with the literature search request so that the AWIC Information Specialist will have a better idea of what the study entails. 
3. Any proprietary information can be blotted out.  The search results are destroyed once the search is sent to the requestor.
4. Upon receipt from AWIC, the Ochsner Medical Library will email the literature search results to the requesting Ochsner researcher/clinician.  Sandra Stromeyer, IACUC office, will also be copied on the search results.
