(October 28, 2010) On Tuesday, October 26, Academic Outreach hosted a field trip for 28 sophomores and juniors from Hahnville High School. The students, members of their school-based School to Careers program, had the opportunity to come to Ochsner to learn about the career opportunities in 14 different departments throughout the campus: The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center, Anesthesiology, Cardiovascular Surgery, Neuroradiology, Pediatric Orthopedics, Neonatal Nursing, Pathology, Labor and Delivery/Mother Baby Unit, Pediatrics, Arrhythmia Clinic, OB/GYN, Trauma, Sonogram Technician, and Radiology.
According to Tressa Tanner, one of their teachers, “Our students have returned to school today with exciting reports of their experiences. Hopefully, this will encourage another generation of healthcare professionals!”
Jeremiah Davis, a student who shadowed Anesthesiology, said, “This job shadow has given me the information I need to make an informed decision on a future career path.”
Academic Outreach thanks all of the staff members who served as mentors to these students: Mimi Primeaux, Gene Parrino, Kathy Dixon, Colleen Story, Dawn Ricouard, Andrea Linscott, Lynn Martin, Amy Allday, Jodi Ormond, Roxanne Shepherd, Stephanie Ducoing, Stephanie Ryan, Socea May, Erica Schmidt, Cristine Stamm, Rajiv Gala, Al Robichaux, Rosa Judd, and Valerie Hensarling.
