(June 1, 2011) Ochsner Clinical School Education Program Manager Charlotte Steger has been recognized with an Ochsner Spirit of Caring Award. The Spirit of Caring program rewards individuals for demonstrating outstanding customer service, defined as a specific action or progressive action on the part of an employee that goes above and beyond what is expected in his or her daily work responsibilities and makes a substantial positive impact on a patient, guest, employee, or leader.
Charlotte’s recognition is the result of her demonstrating an extraordinary act of customer service. A medical student enrolled in The University of Queensland Ochsner Clinical School was arriving in New Orleans for the very first time, having studied in Australia for two years. On his way to New Orleans from Virginia, he became lost and ended up in Florida. Because of the delay in his arrival, his hotel reservation was not secured and the student was left with no place to stay in an unfamiliar city.
Charlotte opened her home to this student and let him stay at her house until he was able to secure housing several days later. This student knew of Ochsner’s culture beforehand, yet did not experience it first hand until he arrived. Charlotte went out of her way to demonstrate a true “Spirit of Caring” and how living our mission to serve is what makes our organization and our people unique and special.
Congratulations, Charlotte!!
