(October 31, 2011) Ochsner Academic Outreach, in partnership with the Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS) Technology Division, hosted the second annual Ochsner Careers Teleconference on October 13, 2011. The event took place at Grace King High School (Metairie), where 35 biology and chemistry students attended the session. Two schools were teleconferenced in to the event: Bonnabel High School (Kenner) with 35 student participants and West Jefferson High School (Harvey) with 30 students in attendance.
Facilitated by the JPPSS Technology Department Program Manager Dr. Betsy Almerico and Ochsner Academic Outreach Senior Administrator Allison Sharai, students were introduced to “hot” medical careers, including flight care nurse, physical therapy assistant, medical technologist, and radiologic technologist. The panelists educated the students about job duties, required certifications and licensures, and what the students should be doing while still in high school to prepare themselves for these careers.
Academic Outreach thanks the JPPSS Technology Division staff, including Dr. Betsy Almerico, Carol Newman, and Sharon Moser and the Grace King High School administration and staff for providing their facilities and support for this event.
