2012 STAR Student Scholars Meet for the First Time!

(May 22, 2012) The 2012 STAR Student Scholars met each other for the first time at the STAR Meet & Greet reception in the Brent House Conference Center on Tuesday, May 15. Speakers included Janice Piazza, Dr. Jawed Alam, Allison Sharai, and STAR Team Leaders Melisa Enclade and Alton Denson.

The speakers discussed the opportunities the 2012 STAR Student Scholars will have this summer to experience many facets of healthcare—knowledge that can help them decide if they will pursue a medicine- or science-related major in college. A few of the clinical areas the STAR students will explore during the summer are chemo/radiation, radiology, respiratory, flight care/emergency medicine, neurosurgery, and sports medicine.

Keep up with the STAR Student Scholars’ weekly blogs and newsletters at www.ochsner.org/STAR. The STAR program runs June 11 through July 19 from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm daily. To learn more about STAR, contact any member of the administrative team: Allison Sharai, Dr. Jawed Alam, Ethel Madden, Melisa Enclade or Alton Denson. STAR is a program of Academic Outreach in the Knowledge Management Department of the Academic Division.
