Electives at Ochsner are available to third and fourth year medical students from LSU and Tulane universities. Third year students are scheduled through the medical school. Fourth year students require advance scheduling by contacting the Department of Medical Education.
Visiting Students
(4th year Electives )
We are happy to extend opportunities to students from other medical schools. However, we are unable to guarantee student electives and request a minimum of 6 weeks notification. Electives are limited and based on availability. Electives are limited to a maximum of two 4-week blocks per academic year.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled and in good standing in a LCME or AOA accredited institution
- Must complete a Medical Student Elective Application
- Complete all your required core clerkships
- Immunization record, completed by a health care provider
- $1,000,000/$3,000,000 malpractice insurance coverage
- Personal Health Insurance
Transportation, Housing, Meals
You are responsible for locating and paying for your own transportation, housing and meals. Final housing and travel arrangements should be deferred until enrollment has been confirmed in case we are unable to accommodate your course request.
