History and Mission
In spring 2006, Ochsner established the Center for Health Research under the direction of Dr. M.A. “Tonette” Krousel-Wood. The mission of the Center is “to advance knowledge to improve clinical practices and the health and well-being of our patient population by conducting extramurally funded research and broadly disseminating research findings.”

Goals and Activities
The Center currently conducts investigator-initiated, NIH-funded original research in the areas of health care outcomes and health care processes.
The goals for the Center for Health Research complement ongoing work by other investigators at Ochsner with a history of collaborative efforts in clinical outcomes tracking in various specialties (e.g., cardiovascular specialties, endocrinology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, nephrology, oncology, radiology, rheumatology, and transplant, to name a few).
These studies will increase knowledge about adherence to medications, guidelines, and physical activity recommendations, and will lay the groundwork for development of effective interventions that can be practically applied in clinical settings.

Collaborative Efforts
As part of the funded grants, the research personnel in the Center are currently collaborating with investigators within the hypertension, endocrinology, and cardiology sections at Ochsner, with investigators at Tulane and UCLA, and with cooperation from ISD, Medical Informatics, and Humana.
The Center is committed to increasing translational research efforts with expanded internal and external collaborations, increasing extramural funding, and developing educational sessions to promote and enhance health research efforts at Ochsner.
