
The Ochsner Health System clinical enterprise is composed of 7 hospitals and 33 neighbourhood health centres (clinics) across Southeast Louisiana. Ochsner has more than 10,000 employees, making the organization the largest private employer in the region.
Ochsner employs approximately 700 physicians across 80 specialties and subspecialties. In addition, more than 900 community physicians are affiliated with Ochsner’s community hospitals. In 2007, there were 1,198,676 patient visits in Ochsner clinics and 44,742 discharges from its hospitals. The System has a total of 1,122 licensed beds.
Areas of Clinical Excellence
Organ Transplantation: Surgeons at Ochsner performed the state’s first liver transplant in 1974, and the reputation of the transplant team has continued to grow. In 2007 the Abdominal Transplant Team performed their 1000th liver transplant and 1000th kidney transplant, and the Cardiovascular Team performed their 700th heart transplant. The team surpasses national survival rates and has significantly lower wait times for listed patients.
Robotic Surgery: Ochsner has taken the lead in the region in robotic surgery with several of its hospitals using the Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System in urologic as well as gynaecologic surgery.
Neonatal Intensive Care: in addition to a full range of paediatric specialties, Ochsner Medical Center has a 41 bed neonatal intensive care unit that has Level III regional designation, the highest awarded by the state of Louisiana.
Ochsner is also a recognized leader in cardiac care, gastrointestinal disease, diabetes, cancer, and hypertension, with significant research efforts ongoing in these areas as well.
