
Ochsner operates one of the nation's largest independent, accredited graduate medical education programs. Our physicians currently support both elective and core clinical rotations for approximately 400 medical students from the medical schools at Louisiana State University and Tulane University, who spend a total of approximately 650 student-months in the Ochsner system each year.
Residency and Fellowship Programs
In 2007, Ochsner sponsored 18 accredited medical and surgical programs with 219 residents and fellows appointed. An additional 26 residency and fellowship programs affiliated with Ochsner, primarily from the two local medical schools (LSU & Tulane) with 320 discrete residents registered with Ochsner for training in their chosen specialty. All programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Allied Health
Also, in 2007, 492 unique medical students completed 733 student months of training at Ochsner for core 3rd year and 4th year elective training. Through a consortium relationship with Our Lady of Holy Cross College, 25 students in radiologic technology and respiratory care trained at Ochsner. Additional opportunities were provided in 26 allied health disciplines for more than 400 unique students from various schools and universities locally and throughout the country.
