Health Information Management (HIM)
Health Information Management is an allied health profession that involves the oversight and management of health data and the health care systems that are used in the collection, storage, processing, retrieval, and communication of that medical information.
Health Information Management professionals are given the responsibility of management and administration of health information systems and data security along with translation and validation of coded information that is utilized for medical billing, reimbursement, clinical research activity, and quality performance assessment of computer-based health information and patient data systems.
Coding
A medical coding (or clinical coding) specialist is an individual who reviews and analyzes health records to identify relevant diagnoses and procedures for distinct patient encounters.
