Surgical technologists are allied health professionals who are valuable members of the medical surgical team that assist surgeons in providing surgical care to patients. The surgical technologist works collaboratively with the surgical team in delivering safe and effective surgical care during invasive procedures. The technologist works with the surgeon and surgical team to ensure that the operating room environment is safe, that surgical equipment and devices are in proper working order, and that the surgical procedures are conducted under optimal conditions that meet sterility protocol standards to maximize patient safety throughout the surgical process. They utilize their education and knowledge of human anatomy, surgical protocols and procedures, and the utilization of surgical equipment and tools to effectively assist and enhance the performance of the surgical team during invasive therapeutic surgical procedures.
